On-site housing of business technology is usually in a space, termed in the industry, as a server room. For a server room to provide adequate protection for a business' mission-critical systems, it should meet certain threshold requirements. At a minimum, the room should be located in a secure area, and provide the following protection: controlled air conditioning, dedicated power backed up by a UPS that protects against spikes and brownouts, and cabling that meets standards for Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Fiber.
